The Base 401 delivers one horsepower and is perfect for canoes or very small boats. As it requires just one 12 volt battery, charging is quicker and more convenient with only one battery to deal with.

The 801: Two horsepower. Powered by two 12 volt deep cycle marine batteries.
For an extra $200, you get twice the horsepower! The 801 is great for a fishing boat, as a trolling motor or just to add on to your old tin boat for the kids! Sailors love the 801 for motoring around in port.

As a general rule, the slower you go, the farther you go as the Torqueedo draws much less power from the batteries at slow speeds. A small fishing boat or canoe will obviously go faster than a large sailboat. Below are some general guidelines based on testing done various types of boats. These examples are approximations and your results will vary.
