Just wanted to take a few moments of your time to let you know how excited I am to see your father’s boat make a comeback to the consumer market with a new production of boats based on the original specifications of this timeless beauty.
The design and craftsmanship of the Humber Jewel makes for a solid boat that is light weight, has great handling and a wide bottom transom that makes it a steady ship in choppier and less than ideal water conditions. It is a versatile boat that performs exceptionally well as small fishing\leisure craft with a 35HP outboard or a sleek sport racing boat fit to pull even the heaviest of skiers when equipped with a 65 HP two stroke three blade prop motor.
Having had the pleasure of recently purchasing and restoring one of these gems, it didn’t’t take long for me to realize that this little cruising machine has a wide scope of potential as far as customization to any reasonable needs is concerned. I am also very impressed with the fact that the boat sustained very little fiberglass damage\rot over its 25+ year service with its last owner, proving this boat has really stood the test of time; truly a solid built vessel which I am very proud to own.
The 10 day camping trip was awesome. Here are some pics I got of your boat. Man did your pops know how to build them! The boat is amazing, out performing even my own expectations.

John: I did see your ad and it put a huge smile on my face. The Jewel has a special place in my heart. Our neighbors at the cottage had one back in the 70’s.I learned to slalom ski behind that boat.
Two years ago, while out for a boat ride with my wife, I spotted a Jewel tied to a raft with a sign on it. I told my wife that we might be buying a boat today.
As we got closer I could make out that the sign said “free boat”. After talking to the owner, I tied a rope to the boat and took it. It was in very rough shape. The transom was rotten, the floor under the motor well was rotten and there were numerous FG repairs to hull. The good news was that it came with a non-running motor and it was complete w.r.t. controls and steering. I spent the winter replacing the transom and floors, re-repairing the holes and grinding out and filling thousands of cracks in the gel coat. I also got the motor fixed. I am very happy with the results. I even made a windshield, but never installed it because my wife prefers the boat without it. The original owners said they bought the boat in 1963. Last year I saw another such basket case with a 70 Hp motor and trailer for $1100. I considered taking it and starting a fleet, but common sense got the better of me. This year I saw another one with a 40 Hp motor and trailer for $1500 and again I had to stop and mull it over.
I wish you all the best in your endeavor to bring back what to me is a beautiful watercraft.

Humber “Jewel”… synonymous to “Exhilarating Summer Fun”.
My exposure to Humber “Jewels” began in the summer of 1970, as a 15 yr. old working at our local marina on Georgian Bay Ontario. It was there that I had seen more than a few Humber “Jewels”. They were very popular & certainly held their own in the competition of an exploding sport powerboat scene. The “Jewel” had quickly gained a positive reputation not only for its durable construction & appealing lines but also more for its superior handling even in a stiff chop. They’ll handle rough water without the excessive pounding normally experienced by most boats much larger than its mere 12’ length.
Its winged aft design is not only cosmetically futuristic but allows for excellent maneuverability & the ability to turn on a dime at just about any speed. My hobbies include restoring classic Mercury outboards & fiberglass powerboats. I’m a proud owner of a newly restored late 60’s “Humber Jewel” and Am currently beginning the restoration of a 1958 Mercury “Mark 78” outboard to power it. Hold On!!!! I was very happy to learn recently of the return of the Humber “Jewel”. The name says it all. All the best and a bright future for Humber Boats!!!
